ClearGuard Privacy Policy
Effective October 19, 2026
ClearGuard Technologies, LLC provides family and school tools for visible website rules, device connection status, and focused browsing. Privacy is a core product boundary, not an add-on.
ClearGuard does not collect screen recordings or screenshots, keystrokes, passwords, private-message contents, camera or microphone data, or location data.
Information we collect and process
We collect or process only the information needed to provide and support ClearGuard:
- Account details such as name, email address, login credentials stored as password hashes, and organization or family information.
- Subscription and billing status. Card payments are processed by Stripe; ClearGuard does not store full payment-card numbers.
- Authentication and connection credentials, including device-scoped or browser-scoped tokens used to connect the extension securely to the correct family or school. ClearGuard does not collect a user’s website passwords or authentication cookies.
- Device and browser connection details, including device name, platform, extension version, installation mode, connected child, family group or classroom, and last connection time.
- If a parent enables request notifications, the browser’s push-subscription address and cryptographic delivery keys. These are used only to deliver ClearGuard request notifications to that browser and are removed when the subscription is turned off or reported as expired.
- The extension processes the current website hostname locally to apply assigned website and safety rules. When website-category blocking is enabled, it sends only the hostname for categorization; it does not send the page path, query string, page contents, or child or student identity to the categorization provider.
- Open-tab status sharing is optional and off by default for user-installable extensions. When enabled, the extension sends the titles and website domains of currently open tabs to the connected parent or authorized school portal and permits an authorized teacher to close a shared tab. ClearGuard does not access the browser’s saved history.
- Website-rule activity, such as a hostname blocked by a family, safety, or classroom rule.
- Parent approval requests: the connected child profile, requesting device, request type (website or break), website hostname for a website request, request time, and the parent’s decision and expiry time. Requests do not contain page contents, screenshots, or full browsing URLs. They are visible only to the relevant family and are cleaned up after seven days as requests are processed.
- Messages submitted through ClearGuard support forms.
How we use information
We use this information to create and secure accounts, connect devices to the correct family or school, apply visible website rules, show connection status, provide support, process subscriptions, and improve reliability and security.
Browser extension permissions
The ClearGuard browser extension requests storage, alarms, website-access, and network-rule permissions so it can save its connection settings, refresh assigned rules, evaluate website hostnames, and redirect a blocked website to a ClearGuard explanation page. Open-tab access is requested separately and only when a user enables status sharing. It is used to report open-tab titles and domains and to carry out an authorized teacher’s request to close a shared tab. ClearGuard does not read page contents, form entries, passwords, authentication cookies, or private messages.
When information is shared
Information is shown only to the people and services needed to run ClearGuard: the relevant parent or authorized school account, payment processing through Stripe, email delivery or hosting providers, and a website-categorization provider when category blocking is enabled. Category checks send only the website hostname, not the page path, title, content, child or student identity, family, or school. ClearGuard caches the resulting hostname category without linking it to an account and does not create category-browsing history. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Children and schools
Parents, schools, and organizations are responsible for choosing which accounts and devices they connect to ClearGuard and for using the product in accordance with their own policies and applicable law. ClearGuard is designed to make protections visible to children and students rather than operate in secret.
Security and retention
ClearGuard requires HTTPS for extension communications outside local testing and uses reasonable safeguards designed to protect service data. Open-tab status is stored as the device’s current status and replaced by later status updates rather than used to build a saved browser-history profile. We retain account, connection, policy, and support data only while needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements. An account holder may use the available account controls or contact us to request account or data deletion, subject to legal and operational requirements.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure
ClearGuard’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs and Chrome extension permissions adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. ClearGuard uses this information only to provide or improve its disclosed website-rule, safety, focus, and optional open-tab status features. ClearGuard does not sell this information, use it for personalized advertising, transfer it for creditworthiness or lending purposes, or allow human access except with the user’s specific consent for support, when required for security, to comply with law, or when data is aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.
